In Another Dose of Common Sense Atheism, I put forth the argument that religion is analogous to a mental virus in that it can infect people (especially when young) and can be spread from person to person. An important part of that analogy, however, was that—as with traditional viruses—it’s actually possible to protect yourself and others from its effects through proper inoculation.I’d like to think that this is the one of the primary roles that Common Sense Atheism plays in the world—to provide the sort of information required to inoculate people from being infected with the religious virus in the first place and perhaps even to help people become cured if they have already been infected.If you’ve already read Common Sense Atheism and Another Dose of Common Sense Atheism, you are presumably fully vaccinated against the mind rot that religious thinking can cause.
